I am looking at a new reciever, I presently use the denon 2801 with the energy 26xl surround system and have been happy with it. I will be in the next 3-5 years investing in a theater room (15k+) so right now I am looking for a system that will allow me to listen to both music and cinema. I have been looking at the pioneer elite 74 and the denon 3805 or 06 to power either the paradigm cinema series or monitor series. Can anyone advise on the best bang for buck?... these are my only options because I support local business and these are the brands that the local audio shop carries. Also with this investment will I be upgrading my present system?

If you happy with Denon I suggest you to continue with Denon it is a well-known amp with a good reputation. I have the pioneer elite vsx56tx it is an amazing Amp and I'm very happy with the sound, & a lot of power, it is very friendly to use I'm listening mostly to music and you will be surprised from pioneer, listen to it & judge yourself.

Funny you should ask. A friend of mine today just sent me some pics of his new system. He went all Elite (receiver, dvd, plasma), changing over from Denon. Here are some of his comments. I own a 3805, and would consider swapping for an older Elite 56 if anyone is interested. I do love the Denon, but Pioneer makes excellent equipment as well. ;)

"I haven't set-up the receiver yet using the room calibration, but out of the box sound is 10x better than my old [Denon] 2802. [The wife] was in the room when I was doing it and was amazed at the difference. Dolby IIx + thx, as well as the other thx modes, sounds soooo good, even w/o my rears hooked-up. "

Denon X Pioneer

Buckeyefan's friend said that the Pioneer sounded 10x better than his old Denon 2802...
He may be right, but the right comparison, in this case, should be:

74 against 3805 and/or 3806.

10 times? May be there is something wrong with his "old" 2802.
