I just bough a new Sony HDTV (34" XBR CRT), and a new Pioneer DVD player (Pioneer DV-578A-S). If I set the DVD player to interlace mode, the picture looks fine. I ran the THX Optimizer on my Incredibles DVD, and the default settings on the Sony are very close.
However, if I switch the DVD player to progressive-scan mode, the picture looks much darker. I plugged in my old Sony DVD player (non-progressive scan) and it looks fine.
A friend is going to lend me his new DVD player to see if the problem lies with my TV, or my DVD player. (I'm hoping it's my 4 pound DVD player, and not my 200 pound TV.)
Anybody see anything like this before?
