Pioneer DV-563A universal dvd player

I want to disable the bass management in the player and rely on my Yammy receiver bass management. The reason for this is it seems the crossover in the Pioneer is very high and the receiver's options are much more flexible. I think I read somewhere that if I set all speakers to large in the Pioneer I bypass the dvd bm and crossover settings...does anybody know if this is correct?

DVD bass management

The DVD player sould only apply bass managment to the analog outputs normally used for DVD-A and SACD and not the digital coax and optical connections.
There are only a few flagship receivers that will do bass managment of the 7.1 analog inputs, so your are probably stuck with the DVD's crossover for DVD-A and SACD.

jc, yep...I was wondering about that...I guess unless I invest in a dedicated bm unit I have very few options. With one of the x-over specs at 100 for cd on the dvd player I guess I should use the sub adjustment and manually compensate for it(set it to 100 also)? SACD is shown to x-over at 120 but dvd-a at 200!! Seems I'll be missisng something on dvd-a since my sub won't go that high?

Your sub probably will go that high, just not with any authority, and subs really should not go so high, so it isn't a bad thing. You would actually set the sub to it's highest point on the x-over and let the player/receiver handle the x-over. Unfortunately, that does not fix your problem of the 100/200Hz x-over in the player. One option would be to set all speakers to large and then set the x-over to the point that sounds good, but this will affect anything that you are playing back digitally also, because the sub's x-over will still apply.

New to forum

I'm new to the audiophile world and wanted to receive feedback on purchasing a used Pioneer DV-563a unit.

I'm told it would be a great starter unit and would work well with my Antique Sound Lab AQ1001 DT amplifier and Spendor S5e speakers.

Any feedback and/or units for sale would be appreciated.

I'd look at the new Cambridge Audio universal model(s) before looking at this one.

The pioneer has performed well for me, esp. consideing the price tag. I am disappointed with the minimal amount of bass management though.
