If you go with the bookshelves (I would), $377 will get you 5.0 Pioneer speakers (2 pair BS-22, plus center) with Pioneer AVR.
Add a SUB-1000 (or SUB-1200 for additional $30) and you've got the complete 5.1 system for about $510.

I don't think the Pio sub is as bad as some, but since you can get a SUB-1000 for the same money (Google "$10 off parts express coupon") I would avoid the Pioneer.

The bookshelves, receiver, and SUB-1000 would get a killer budget 2.1 system for $330!
Don't know if Shnoops charges shipping or not. If so, you can get the Denon AVR-1513 for $145 shipped.
