Wow WEE! That's a great looking piece of equipment. I thought it was going to come in at around $1000. That not a whole lot more than the 350 and will be right around the same price... maybe a bit more than the 550. That's a no brainer... I think. I've been thinking of holding off until Thanksgiving/Xmas time to pick up a deal and wait until next year or so to pick up a new flagship model, but this may be the player that causes me to rethink that. I'd like read some revews on it. I'd like see how the boot up and load speeds fair.

Yeah, it sure looks pretty and matches perfectly with your Elite. Definitely a no-brainer!

I'm sure it will get a professional review before my $2K Denon BD gets one!

I just saw the Pioneer BDP-51FD in the Audio Advisor magazine and thought of you!:D

Yeah, but it is a Pioneer :p
At least it's not a feature slim Denon.:D It's pretty sad that Denon's next Blu-ray player which is supposed to be around $700-750 is a Funai with no multichannel outs, no HD audio internal decoders, and is profile 1.1. Denon is getting pretty lame with their Blu-ray players thus-far.:(

Iv'e been watching this player for awhile. I actually have one on preorder with my old time favorite dealer out of Va....I get discounts.;) Lot's of info and comments over on AVS about this one. A couple of guys even got one at Magnolia already. They were supposed to be display only units and not sold yet. It even says so when you fire it up.
Robert at Value Electronics is really high on this unit and the 05 Elite model. He plans a shoot out with the new Sony, Panny, Denon and one or two others with the Pioneers soon. Maybe next week? I can't remember. Anywho, he says the picture quality is noticeably better than anything he has seen to date. I can't wait!
Load times are fast, but not the fastest. Of course, the firmware is not completed yet, either. The last version is supposed to be out in about 10 days. Seems like I remember by the 29th and then all players can be sold.:D

One of the best things about it...it's a Pioneer!

That is odd about the Denon. In fact I think it's odd that anyone is putting any player that's not 2.0.

I just discovered this player and the 05FD Elite the other day. I think my search for a Blu-Ray player is over. I waited for the Panny BD50 and was dissapointed to see that it was priced so high. I was just beginning to think that I would have to break down and buy a PS3 which I did not want to do. I should be able to accommodate one for a rather good price and I may have to go for it (working in the industry has its perks). It doesn't look like there's much of a difference in dealer cost between the standard and Elite model.

The Elite BD looks the same, but it does have the nice ELITE logo on there. You know me, if I had an ELITE receiver, I would have to buy this one::D

hmmm... $200 for basically the Elite Logo... That's a bit steep, but probably a must. Then again, it's double the cost of the Sony 350. My original thought was get a decent player now and a flagship player once things really shake out and replace a less expensive player which I know will happen anyway. This is a tough call since it seems they really focused on performance vs features I don't care about.

I just think that this time next years, things will be very different in the bd plahyer world and makes more sense to wait on spending bigger dollars until then. This is a tough one to decide on.

Itschris, the final standard profile is profile 1.1. Only Sony, LG, Samsung and Panny have even bothered to put out profile 2.0 capable players. Maybe Oppo or Yamaha will release a player that will embarass Pioneer, Denon, Marantz and Onkyo enough to release proper 2.0 players.

============
I'm not sure if this one using Marvell or not.

If so, one can get the same Marvell QDEO video processor in a LG BH200. The Pioneer gives 7.1 analog audio, DTS-HD decoding out of the box, killer Wolfson DAC's, jitter correction?, and the Pioneer nameplate in your rack. The LG gives HD DVD playback, region free SD DVD and Blu-Ray playback, PAL playback and an Ethernet port for profile 2.0 (should they decide to upgrade).

That's why I'm thinking of waiting until next year to buy a higher dollar "flagship" player and just picking up the Sony for now.

David, I think you were looking at the Cambridge Audio DVD99 right BELOW the Pioneer BD player!:D

The Pioneer BD does NOT play SACD or DVD-A.

The Cambridge DVD99 player does.:D

Au Contraire, my friend! On page 4 of the AudioAdvisor catalog, there is a DVD Player Features Chart. It CLEARLY shows the Pioneer BDP51FD as playing DVD-Audio and SACD-both are checked with a yes. Ha!:p
Is it a typo, or is this the Uni player all you junkies have been jonesing for?!

I can check the official Pioneer marketing information at work today and report back.

The official Pioneer documentation makes no mention of SACD or DVD-A playback in either the standard Pioneer or Elite model.
