pioneer bdp-120 vs 320

Looks like the 320 can bitstream DTS-MA (120 can only decode, send out as pcm), and sports 7.1 mch analog connections.

The mch analog connection difference is perhaps the singularly most important difference between different model numbers from the same mftr.

I don't know why you gravitate towards Pioneer, but with bdp's, I would recommend Panasonic at anything less than a Oppo price tag.

Here is an audio support comparison chart for your future reference.

well i can only choose from futureshop as its going on my card, and so far ive liked the pioneer, what else do you suggest then?

i also noticed the 120 does 12 bit deep colour where the 320 does 48 bit deep colour

oh i guess also i should state, im not looking for all the additional stuff like streaming on it or getting music through it, i just need a good solid unit to play BD, but one that will last and be good at doing it. thanks

from reading on the avs forum of reviews, the bdp320 is a very good BD player, only lacking in the fact that its slow at loading.. the 120 didnt do to well in some hands on reviews though..

The 320 has some nice reviews, apparently top notch in both audio and video quality. If you can get it for significantly less than the OPPO and you don't need SACD, DVD-A capbility then it may be all you need.

So there is still a significant cost difference but I forgot to ask if you can live with the slower response. The OPPO is apparently as fast or faster than even the PS3. Other than that based on reviews I read, you can't go wrong with the 320. I would buy one if I don't have 3 players (including the PS3) already.:D If you can wait until after Christmas the price bound to drop by at least $50 by the end of January.

One more thing, if you buy online be careful because there seems to be two versions of the BDP-320 one has 7.1 analog out the other has not. It seems that the NA one has 7.1 though so you should be fine. It just seem strange with the same model number yet no guarantee for same feature sets.

ahh thanks peng, but i will be buying instore. and for living with the slow loading times, im going to go to futureshop this week and play with the player and see how long it takes to load up from off, and how long it takes to load blu rays, to see how long it actually takes, if its not bad, then it will be my choice, i dont mind waiting, but i dont want to sit there waiting over a min for it to load.

and yes you are right, there are 2 different BD - 320's the Europe one doesn't come with 7.1 analog, but the us one does.

If that is your choice and you don't want to wait for another month or two for price drops, you should ask them to take $50 or more off and still give you the 2-pack BD movies. Some Future Shops will do it some won't so it does not hurt to ask. Otherwise I suggest you wait, there is no way I would pay full list price at FS for any BD player right now.

Good luck!

oh no, im def. waiting on a sale for this, and what im going to do is if it comes on sale, buy it, then see what comes on sale on boxing day, if there is something better or what not ill buy it then return the 320, if not, ill just keep the 320 and still have it at a sale price.
