Pioneer AV receiver VSX-1131

I have a new Pioneer AV receiver VSX-1131, the receiver frequently goes into "amp diagnostic mode" and then says "check speaker wires" after few minutes of playing. I have checked all my speaker wires and have interchanged all my speakers. However, the problem still persists.

Disappointingly, service support of Pioneer India is very poor and they have not been able to provide resolution to the problem and instead is trying to find faults on the dealer from whom I purchased.

Can anyone help me to get rid of this problem. Suggesting friends to stay away from Pioneer equipment because of poor quality of components used in the receiver and very poor service support. They are just dumping cheap junks on customers.

May be there is a speaker problem. What speakers are you using?

I have two different pairs of speakers- 1st pair is yamaha ns-8390 floor standing speakers and 2nd pair is mission mx1 bookshelf speakers. M facing the problem with both pairs of speakers.

Cabinet of the av receiver gets very hot after an hour of use.

I don't know how to help you.

I assume the receiver has plenty of space around it for ventilation, 6" all around at least.

Pioneer are not what they used to be.

Either that unit is faulty or it does not like those speakers.

I note a high incidence of problems with that receiver but not the issue you are having.

The receiver has no 4 ohm rating.

Therein my lie the problem. A speaker manufacturer giving a speaker an 8 ohm nominal impedance rating means nothing. Mission do provide more complete specs. The minimum impedance is stated as 4.2 ohms. A good rule of thumb is that the actual impedance is likely to be the minimal impedance plus 10%. So that would make the Mission speakers about 4.6 ohms.

The Yamaha speakers seem to be just available in Asia. I can only find the manufacturers impedance rating and no third party measurements. I suspect the nominal 8 ohm impedance may be just that nominal and in fact the impedance is nearer 4 than 8 ohms.

Either way that receiver is not going to do the job for you, either because it is defective or your speakers are not suitable for it.

You need to return it to the dealer as unsatisfactory if still under warranty.

You need a receiver 4 ohm stable with a manufacturer rating for 4 ohm speakers.

Finally it occurs to me that since you are in India it is very hot. What is the temperature inside your home? On thing that might help is to put a computer fan right over the top of the receiver.

If your tying to run both pairs of speakers at the same time off of speaker A and speaker B your move than likely presenting the pioneer way to low of an impedance as TSL was explaining. Typically you use either speaker A Or B not both at the same time with almost all receivers.

He said in his first post that he interchanged the speakers. I assumed he was not running them both together, but if he is that is the problem.

That receiver seems pretty awful. Only specked two channels driven at 8 ohm and 1 channel. driven at 6 ohm and no 4 ohm rating.

I get the impression that receivers are getting worse and they were never good. They are now crammed with features, but not much else good to say about them. Most are just far too cheap, and too many, especially at the lower end of the market, crammed up with that Atmos nonsense.

I would just love to be able to have a two channel integrated with bass management and lots of HDMI connectivity and NO streaming apps, but with a really solid power supply and power amps to recommend. All that streaming like Pandora and Spotify etc can be added up stream. It should NOT be in receivers, especially not in those at the lower end of the market.
