Pioneer Andrew Jones question vs Infinity

I am replacing some Infinity towers in my bedroom set up. Model P363. I am giving these to my son and replacing them with bookshelf speakers since I need more room. Does anyone here have an opinion on the Pioneer Andrew Jones speakers vs the Infinity speakers. I know the bass won't be as pronounced between book shelf and towers. Please give any feed back you have. Thanks

Aren't the Infinity like $700/pair msrp? I figure they would be quite a bit better than the Pioneer's, but you never know.

The Pioneers have more laid back treble in my scant comparison between the two. The Pioneer bookshelfs won't have anything like the dynamic range of some p363 towers, but if you didn't listen to them loud, and understand the hit you will be taking in bass extension, they might not be bad. I would look into Dennis Murphy's mod of the Pioneers, I am sure those would sound very good.

As was recommended, go with the Pioneer modded AAL speakers - they are a clear
step up from the stock Pioneer speakers - they have clean/clear detail and definition,
with some nice bass response for a bookshelf.

If you do not care to go that route - then get the Cambridge S30 speakers - they are
nice - with some good bass punch, that is tight and controlled >> and they are better
than the stock Pioneer speakers, in the bass, mids and highs.

I for sure prefer the AAL speakers and the Cambridge S30 speakers, over the Infinity
Primus bookshelf speakers.

I had the Infinity 162's and preferred The Pioneer SP-FS52-LR and If fact I bought them again last month after the first pair were ruined and once again I am thrilled with them.

I owned the P163 and the BS22LR at the same time. I sold the 163s. Both have good qualities, but I prefer the sound of the Pioneers. I just sold my BS22s this weekend as I upgraded to the FS52 towers.

Here are two extensive threads and reviews of the Pioneers and a few comparisons to the Primus line.

Nobody cares about MSRP and MSRP is not an indicator of sound quality. The Infinity and Pioneer towers sell at the same street price.

You sold the BS22 - are you mainly using the towers for Music or HT.

Sometime in the future, you need to try the AAL Monitor - they are nice.

I have some friends who needed a new 2ch system, so I bought the 52s on sale and sold them the BS22s cheap. I got the 52s for a ridiculous price...actually paid less for them than the BS22s on sale. In my system, usage is movies and music, but I bought them mainly for music. To be honest, with them back to back, I prefer the 52s even for music. The additional midrange of the multi-driver array gives them a bigger stage, though I do believe the 22s are cleaner. At some point I do think I'll try the AAL as well.

The couple I sold the speakers to couldn't believe how good the BS22s sounded for their size. They don't have a receiver yet, so I lent them my old Audiosource Amp100 that was my garage amp, while they're waiting for the receiver that I had them order to come in. I hooked everything up to their system and it sounds really good and is a massive leap above the all-in-one boom box system they were using previously. The old system stopped playing CDs and they wanted to upgrade anyway, but funds are tight. They have a medium size open room and the 22s fill it easily with very pleasant sound with just the 50WPC from the Amp100.

I have the 52s on my PM7200 now and had them on for many hours over the weekend and I'm very pleased with them.

P363 to pioneer bookshelf, that would be a massive downgrade for me with music, movies, and gaming. Absolutely do not recommend that. I preferred the bs22 to the p163 for nearfield pc usage though. Go listen for yourself though, everybody got their own opinions.

He is going to a bookshelf regardless for space reasons, so the BS22 is a solid choice.

Well, this is true. Perhaps he should consider the Dennis Murphy modded bs22's if those will continue to be made.

Those are the AALs discussed in this thread also, and yes, Dennis is still currently offering them. I haven't heard them yet but zeigl01 owns a pair and is the one who recommended them.

I demoed the Prototype - someone else bought the demo pair, they are really
nice and a clear step-up for me - the new tweeter makes a difference.
