Pioneer 816 or 516?

I tried another forum but didn't get quality feedback hope you guys can help me out.

I am on a tight budget since I am a teenager and am looking for an upgrade from a shelf system I got years ago and wanted to do it the right way not get a HTIB.

I have looked at many brands and I like Pioneer since I would like to keep it all one brand and low cost.

I decided for new speakers i would get them out of the H-seires Pioneer lineup and I would have 41's in the front, 21's in the back, an 11 for the center, and I am skipping the sub for now that is later due to cost.

So which reciever would fit me better? I am just looking for sound quality right now and video switch is not a big deal. Does the extra 10 watts on the 816 make a big difference?

The reason I am might decide on the lower model is the price difference. I have seen teh 516 for $150 and the 816 for $250. Has anyone seen better prices, that include shipping?

In your position I would get the 516, it doesn't have all the nice features the 816 does such as preouts (for adding a more powerfull external amplifier) and more inputs. The power difference is neglegible, probably not even noticible. The 516 is an inexpensive solution to your problem. The speakers you have chosen will work fine for that receiver. I have oned a pair of the 21's, they are decent for the money, they don't offer much bass, but you say you have the sub that came with a HTIAB. What is the make and model of the HTIAB?

It is nice to see other younger people interested in the world of audio.:D When I was still teenager I was just getting into audio pretty heavy actually.:) Good luck.

You mis-read what I wrote I said I don't want to get a HTIB that i wanna build a stereo the right way. So I don't have a home audio sub, but i do have a 15 inch Kick CVR which thumps and then a set of 12 inch Duals in a bandpass box which sound decent for the price tag. Are there any cheap home audio amps that I could power one of those with? That might make the upgrade to the 816 worth it. I would think with a stong enough amp the 15 inch Kicker would sound amazing in my room, it is a 500 watt rms sub with dual 4-omh voice coils.

I'd recommend the Pioneer 816.
