Hi all,

I don't own a TV and watch all my movies on my computer monitor. Given that fact, is there any good reason to buy the Pioneer 1016 rather than the Pioneer 816? Put another way, as an audio machine, is there any important difference?

Looking at the comparison at pioneer's website, there doesn't seem to be too much difference. Huge difference in weight. But I don't know if that's just because of the video technology. There are a few other differences, such as "Basic Phase Control".

For the money I'd go for the 1016. It provides more flexibility for later with the hdmi connection, hence the added cost. If you feel hdmi is not in your future, then go with the 816, sound wise it should be similar to the 1016.

Go for 1016, it is based on a completely different design. It is basically a copy of their low end elite receivers. The amplifier is the reason it weighs almost twice that of the 816.

The 1016 also has the auto calibration that works very nice imho.
