Pioneer 816-k vs 1015TX

I am looking to buy a new receiver this week for my Athena Micra speakers that are on their way. I am currently deciding between the Pioneer VSX-816-K ($400) or the Pioneer VSX-1015TX ($600). I am trying to decide if its worth it to shell out the extra $200 for this receive or not. I will only be using it for Movies/Tv/Xbox360/PS3. Anyone have any opinions?

My opinion is to get a better buy on the 1015TX. It's one of the best mid level buys in home audio. Check out this site:

If you want a killer deal on a B Stock dealer authorized warranty unit, bid on this. A few of us here (including myself) bought this receiver for just under $800 awhile back. No one has had any issues to date (knock on wood), plus it's been over a year so the warranty would have been up anyhow.

Well if I were you I would be sure to go with the 1015. I just bought one that replaced my Yamaha RX-V757 and I just love it. The sound is incredible!!!! So full and rich and the 1015 never seems to break a sweat. If HDMI switching is a big deal to you then you should wait and get the 1016.
If not, then the 1015 would do just fine.. Happy hunting.

Not a big fan of Pioneer's receivers, but I'd have to say always go with the highest model you can afford. In general, it will be worth it in the long run because you will be more likely to have what you need and more power is never a bad thing.

If you're going to go with the 1015 or any pioneer, make sure you have a nice sub. The low end of the receiver isn't quite as thick as HK or Denon.

Don't frown bud it's a better deal @600.00cdn then 600.00 US. So, if you can afford 600.00 go for it.:D

Hello Speakerman, what are the main differences/improvements between the sound of Pio 1015 and RX-V757?

Well for starters I could tell right off the bat so to speak that the 1015 has more POWER. That is, my Paradigm Studio 20 v.3's seem to sound much fuller sounding and a lot more musical kinda giving me that "wow" factor. Also, the MCacc seems to do a better job of balancing out my room as opposed to the YPAO on the Yamaha. Dont take me wrong because Yamaha makes some darn good stuff BUT IMHO the 1015 just sounds better than the RX-V757.

The 20s only or a full set of Studios? IMO, the 1015 doesn't have the power to push a complete set of Studios to their fullest.

Just the 20's as I do not have a full Studio set. The cc-470 is too big so I am looking at other alternatives. However, the 20's sound so darn good especially with my Mirage S12 powered sub.
