Pioneer 1015 and Audio delay feature??

I am looking at getting the Pioneer VSX-1015-S or possible an Elite model receiver for my HT system. I have Klipsch Ref speakers and I think the pioneer receivers will pair up best with these "bright" speakers?? Thoughts?? My main concern is the receiver MUST have the ability to delay the audio output--I have a lip synch issue with my Samsung DLP TV. Will any of the pioneer receivers do this. I can't find anything even in their owner's manual showing this capability. I really don't need HDMI switching because I will be going directly to my TV from my Oppo dvd and DirectTV HD receiver. Thanks for the help.

I know the 1015 does not have a lip sync feature.

I don't know about the rest of the pioneers, if they don't have it listed in features it probably doesn't have it. You could check owner's manuals or talk to pioneer to be sure though.

I was goling to get the 1015 before I realized that I may need the lip sync feature. Ended up with the yamaha 5890 instead. Only slightly more expensive. ($499 incl. s/h from authorized dealer)

The Pioneer VSX-72/74 receivers have the feature that lets you control sound delay up to 1 second (0.0 to 6.0 frames -- NTSC = 30 frames/sec).

I just bought a VSX-72 for $864 delivered (but not from an authorized dealer) It is very feature rich (HDMI 2-in, 1-out with full video upconversion from any source), phono input, 4 optical in, 1 out, etc. I bought it not only for current features I need, but also for future options. But it's much pricier than the Yammie 5890 if all you need is sound delay for lip synch.

skipsterut, I also have the VSX-72. I've looked through the manual and don't see reference to the sound delay feature, what page is that on in the manual? Thanks.

Page 64 -- bottom right side

You access the Delay feature by toggling though the choices via the Receive -AV Parameter button on the remote using the Up/Down arrow keys. Eventually you will come to "DELAY" and then use the Right/Left arrow keys to set the delay you want in 0.1 frame increments.

As to being able to find things in the Pio 72 manual -- I stongly recommend -- if you don't already have a PDF copy of the manual go to the Pioneer support site, register and download/save the manual on you PC's hard drive. Then use the Acrobat PDF viewer's "find" feature (Ctrl-F) to look for text strings such as "delay." The Pio 72 manual -- which is better than many others -- without an index is still hard to use to find specific bits of information on its lesser used features (like Sound Delay). I have used the PDF "find" technique many times to search for references to key words (e.g. HDMI). You can keep doing a "Find Next" to walk your way through the entire manual finding specific text strings you are interested in.

Lip Sync question

Just how important is it to have the lip sync feature? How often do you run in to needing it? What causes it?

Lip sync issue

The lip sync issue is caused by the video pocessing and scalling circuitry in an HDTV. Good old CRTs did not have any video processing so it was not an issued. Todays Plasmas and LCDs, however, must scale all incomming video to their native resolution causing a few frames of delay. If the delay is long enough, they you will notice the lips moving before the sound. To compensate, many receivers will provide an adjustable delay of the audio so the video and audio are back in sync.
