I watched a audiohalics video on receiver setup so I figured I would try an set the levels with a meter. In the video Gene said he sets his at 80db so to do this does the volume on the receiver need to be set?

Set your SPL meter for the 80 dB range, start the pink noise signal, turn up your receiver’s volume until it’s hitting 75 dB or so, then adjust the levels of each channel to 75 dB. The sub is typically set for 10 dB higher, give or take a few dB.

Not sure if that receiver's master volume control advances by itself to the correct position when you start the level match test with the internal test tones.

It is tricky to just stat the setup and then advance the master volume. the trims even at the factory preset at 0 may be too much depending on distance, etc.
