I have both the gold-plated Original Master Recording and SACD of DSOTM. Is it just me, or does the CD layer of the SACD version seem more compressed? Does anyone else have both these discs and heard this difference?

I have the MFSL and this my preferred format. Runner Up is the "Shine On" Box set version, which was remastered by Alan Parsons himself.

I also have the 20th Anniversary edition, but in the end. MFSL wins.

I've heard the SACD on a couple of occasions but the mix is off in places. I prefer the Quadrophonic Mix in 4.0 over the SACD release.

Im also same SACD and thou it sounds fine to me - I cant hear the difference b'ween it and cds - I heard plenty of times SACD was a bad SQ wise release

Just because something is on SACD doesn't mean it is going to blow the CD out of the water. I like the SACD because the 5.1 mix is well done. I haven't heard the quad mix but many say it is excellent. I don't listen to the SACD for the sound quality, I just like the album

GW- I understand that you helped remaster the CD edition of 'Dark Side of the
Moon' for the 'Shine On' Pink Floyd box.

AP- That is correct. I received a call from James Guthrie, who became the
band's engineer after I left. He was supervising the remastering of the Pink
Floyd box, and he needed some technical information regarding those sessions. I
happened to be in the vicinity of the studio where he was remastering, so I
went down.

Basically, we discovered that the master tapes were in pretty good shape, and
all we had to do was add a little brightness to the end of the tracks. I felt
very pleased with what we did, and feel that the version of 'DSOTM' on 'Shine
On' is the definitive version.

The definitive version is the boomy 1973 8-track version I have. My ears get used to the sound of the 8 track that the SACD version sounds like nails.
