Picking a sub, one on the way already

Been lurking around these parts for a bit now and have the gumption to open a couple of threads. Hopefully I can learn and they're useful for others later...

I have a largish 14x27 ft. room with 10ft. ceilings. Looking for something to fill out wall mounted sealed monitors (5.1) without going crazy, yet.

WAF, WAF, WAF. I planned on an Outlaw LFM-1 but it's just too big physically. An Emotiva Ultra 10 is on the way now, hopefully this post is unneeded, but I have a feeling it is not. The larger 12 version might be a good test as well.

Can you recommend something under $500 that is compact and can get up to 100-120hz? (Notice I didn't say down to 10-12, sigh.)

Will post my notes on the system as it comes together.

Thanks!

I understand WAF issues and I am lucky my wife is REALLY understanding, but your room is over 3,700 cubic feet and 378 square feet. You could hide the damn thing and she may never find it! :D

I'd suggest getting another sub but at least a 12" and likely ported for more extension given your room size - which probably opens up into another room making (maybe). Two subs may be better than one for you. Or add extra money to what you have spent on the Emotiva sub (if you can send it back) and get a bigger sub with a high crossover range.

Christmas is coming up so use your persuasive skills to make her sign off on a bigger sub. More shopping money for her...a more extravagant gift for her??? A cost of the hobby!!

That's a pretty good amount of space to fill so a ported design would make more sense, but you say that option is out due to size. One other option to consider is the Epik Legend which uses dual 12" drivers and it's right at the $499 mark.

Ok, Epik Legend added to the list. If the lil Emo can't hang it will have to go back. Thanks for the advice!

The room is our primary living space, and it is crammed pretty darn full now. My wife "owns" interior stuff for the house, so I need to work with her. Otherwise I'd just get a Hsu 15" and be done with it.

Anyhoo, I got some Emptek EW30's (on wall, with mediocre receiver) up just today. They sound awesome. Now I just need to fill in the low end without cracking my neighbor's foundations and/or pissing off my SO.

The Emo Ultra 10 hasn't showed up yet. The Epik is compelling as hell, but I am leery of the significant number of toddlers that travel and hang out in this room. The Outlaw looks more and more sensible, scale be-damned.
