Whenever i can, i stop at antique/junk shops, pawn shops etc looking for gear. A couple months ago, i asked an antique mall owner if she had any audio equipment. She said she had a turntable, and amp and some speakers at home that belonged to her dad and were purchased in the 70s. She said they were TEAC components. "BRING THEM IN!!" i told her.

They ended up being a Zenith SS receiver. (looked pretty nice, but i told her if it didnt say marantz, pioneer, etc.... i wouldnt be interested at her $200 asking price. (maybe $30) The TT was a near mint SL-1200MK2 with a newish cart and tape holding the platter stationary. The speakers were Zenith. She offered me the system for $500, or the TT for $300.

$300 isnt really a terrible deal on this deck, but way more than i wanted to pay!

After weeks of return visits and other small purchases i finally got her to sell me the TT for $150! Not quite the deal that some of you have found at Goodwill etc, but i thought it wasnt bad.

The cart is a Stanton 680 EL with matching stylus (with cover still on). She said it was replaced by a professional in the '90s and never really used. Her father has passed away and she wanted to sell the gear, so she packed it in bubble wrap and secured the tone arm, cart and platter on the TT. (i wish more people would take care of their gear)

I have seen many posts about carts for this deck so i wont ask.

I cant wait to pair it with my new Yaqin MS-12b that i just picked up as well!!

I am thinking about selling my Pioneer PL-707. Any idea what i could get for it? One sold on ebay last week for more than $250. I dont know if i could expect that locally.... i really didnt think it was nice enough to warrant that kind of price. are vintage TTs getting THAT rare? or is almost everything new that doesnt cost a fortune a total piece of crap????
