Sep 22, 2007 #1 Just won a digital camera (some low end pentax) so here's my inevitable gear pics in my hideous basement (hope this works). Believe me, it sounds better than it looks! Center Axiom VP100 and Sony 4:3 CRT HDTV which has actually done its job as a segway SDTV/HDTV without breaking the bank, Yamaha RX-V757 in silver (which doesn't match any other manufactureres silver you live you learn, everything is black from here on out), Pioneer DV-588A DVD/SACD/DVDA player. The Axiom M60 (or one of them) and various unsightly objects/junk. The M22 surrounds which used to be mains. TV in HDTV mode with Xbox 360 (not very complimentary shot I know) And the best seat in the house (hands off my beer!!!!) Thanks for looking! Reactions: Buckeye_Nut and Gimpy Ric

Those are some nice looking speakers that you've got there. Hands off the beer? Hmmm, that's going to be tough. A nice pint glass of...what do you have there? The only 2 things I'd change though, would be: 1) to remove your player from the top of AVR , and 2) to have a "big gulp" on that pint and get the job done Congrats & regards, Chuck

I was worried about putting the DVD player atop the receiver so I just tried it out at first, checking if things were getting too hot. I can't put the DVD player under the receiver because of the dimensions and where the feet of each unit are. So anyway, I haven't had a problem so far, and the Yamaha seems to be cool enough after watching a 3 hour DTS movie, so I think it's ok, though maybe I'm lowering the receivers life expectancy, but hey if I get a new TV I'll need some HDMI 1.3 passthrough anyway so perfect excuse for an upgrade!

My dad has been running his receiver like that for some time, with the shelf above it being only like 1/2" above the receiver and he hasn't run into issues either, but I still don't like the idea.

Nov 10, 2007 #11 I don't like it either to be honest, but like I said, the receiver seems perfectly cool after extended use so it seems to be ok in my situation. The DVD player is very shallow, so it's only covering about half the top grill of the Yamaha A/V. It's also the basement and it's pretty cool down there, probably why my launch day Xbox 360 is still kickin'
