Phone line Question

I have Voip phone service, and want to know if I can run the phone line over a cat 5e cable instead of the phone cables.
Setup would go from phone adapter to wall plate, through wall, to wall plate. I want the in wall portion to be 5e and then will the 5e wall jack work for the phone cord to the phone.
Thanks Steve
This will simplify some wiring I have to do.

A phone only requires one pair out of the 4 available in a cat5e. If you use the TIA 568B wiring convention, the two that are used for the phone by convention (blue and blue/white) will be on the pins where the phone expects to find them.

Terminate the wall plate with an RJ-45 jack (not the smaller RJ-11 used by phones) and wire it as a network jack; ie all 4 conductors placed where they are supposed to be using the 568B wiring convention. A regular phone will plug right into the RJ-45 with no problems.

My house is wired with cat5e to a central location. Because all of the jacks are terminated with rj-45, I can change a room from phone to network simply by removing the connection from the phone patch panel and plugging it into my switch.

thanks, I thought that but was not sure. I too may want to run a network to this area someday.
