Your post makes no sense. There is no help for it. Exactly what equipment are you connecting to what?

I think that I might understand. The thing to keep in mind is that HDMI will transfer audio and video in one direction only. The HDMI on your surround sound system is almost surely an output, and you have connected it to an input on your TV. I believe that you are trying to use it as if it were the other way around (an output signal from the TV into your surround sound system).

My guess is that you will need to connect an audio output from the TV into an audio input on the surround sound receiver in order to listen to TV through your surround system.

We can help you better if you let us know the manufacturer and model number of the TV and surround sound system.

That surround sound system doesn't give you a lot of options for connecting equipment, but let's give this a shot.

1. Connect the HDMI output on the Philips to one of the HDMI inputs on the TV
2. Connect the HDMI output on the PS3 to one of the other HDMI inputs on the TV

At this point, you can watch DVDs from the Philips on the TV while listening to the DVDs on your surround sound system. You can also watch and listen to material from the PS3 on the TV, but you can't listen to it through the surround sound system. So, we want to hook up some audio from the TV (and/or PS3) to the Philips. You have two options for connections: analog (left/right RCA connectors) and digital. The digital connection is not as easy, but it will allow for better sound. The digital audio outputs on both the TV and PS3 are optical outputs, but the digital audio input on the Philips is a coax input. You can get an adapter to convert a digital audio signal to a digital coax signal (like this one here). Once you get the audio connected from the TV to the Philips, then you'll be able to listen to the TV and to the PS3 through your Philips.

Does the cable line matter in anyway? I do not have a box for the cable line

I assume your cable is connected to your TV. If so you will be able to hear it from the TV output via your Philips, the same as the other sources.

Yeah, those products would work. The length of cable will depend on your system, but you've got the right idea.

You would use the optical cable from the TV to the adapter, and then you would use a digital coax cable from the adapter to your surround sound receiver. "Digital coax" is nothing fancy...just a cable with RCA connectors, basically. Keeping with the monoprice theme, an example of a digital coax cable is at the link here. Monoprice has a menu pick on the left hand side of their main page for digital coax, so you could check out all of their cables. You can also use just about any other cable that has RCA connectors on both ends.

EDIT: I saw this before but didn't really look into it until later - monoprice has their digital coax with "fancy connector" for a little less money than the one that I linked to above, at least for shorter lengths. Seems like a better cable and connectors. You can check out the six-foot version here.
