Phenomenal Craigslist Mirage M5 find

A few days ago I found a pair of Mirage M5 SI’s on CL for $60. I figured they must have issues but the seller claimed they “shook his apartment” tested them and found all 4 PTH 1” tweeters were shot. So I offered him $40 and he accepted. Now I’ve had a pair of OM-R2’s sitting around forever that use the same tweeter but differently shaped housing, so I removed the tweeter coil and attached it to the broken tweeters. All 4 measured 8ohms as they should and REW shows no abnormal frequency response issues in terms of the high end. One thing I do have to say is they’re massive, about 4’ tall but for music I absolutely love them even more so than the OMD-28’s. Just figured I’d share a beautiful find!

It's very satisfying to find a good bargain. :) I would have been interested in seeing photos of the tweeter repair.

So you're the one, congrats! I saw the initial posting and by the time I had some free time the listing was sold.

For a while now when I see good condition or new old stock OEM Mirage parts come up for sale generally buy them so I can continue to get years of use out of them and in the event that deals like this have damaged parts. I’ve got about a dozen OMD drivers and tweeters, roughly the same Omni PTH drivers and tweeters and more OM and M series midranges, woofers and PTH tweeters. Even the BPS400’s I run there’s two sets of 12”woofers set to the side in the event that they should ever fail. More often than not I’ve managed to get great deals and if the seller wants far too much and it’s not something I imminently require I just let it go.

Clean your lens, open some curtains and turn the lights on! We can't see anything in that dark, murky image!

That said, congrats! Sounds like an awesome score. Let's see them!

There’s only tiny windows and horrible lighting. That being said it works great for movies but here’s the best pics I can take.

And yes I know the cables and the area are a mess, the other half of the basement where my permanent area actually will be is in the midst of being renovated. When we started tearing down the walls we discovered behind the 60’s wood paneling there’s randomly placed studs and the floor is incredibly uneven. The basement was more or less a DIY job from all I can see but by July at least 3/4 of it (excluding this small area) will have proper stud spacing, drywall, and at a minimum a level floor and large carpets with carpet pads.

Much better. Can see where the drivers are now. That was a steal at 40 bucks! Hope the reno goes well.

I Love my M590is. It's too bad Mirage was run to the ground by Klipsch When they bought them.

Ruined them! With the exception of the OMD series I always avoid anything from the Made in China/Klipsch Mirage era. So much junk was made. The OS3 series was just horrible as was the Omnisat V2’s. I think all of those API companies were killed off by Klipsch/Audiovox.

They bought and killed competing brands like energy also ... is Klipch that large just buys to ruin stuff ?

The Omnisats weren't bad for what they were. Came out prior to klipsch buying them.

The original Omnisats weren’t bad at all. It’s the made in China, Klipsch era Omnisat V2’s I had mentioned

$40 and an easy fix. That is pretty awesome for those speakers.
