Phase Technology - PC Series

Hello All
I have been shopping locally for a new HT audio system and like the Phase Technology PC Series, system will be predominatley used for movies and some music; I am thinking of:

PC 1.1 II for L/R
PC 3.1 II for center
LC 60I for rear inceiling surrounds

SVS PB-12 Plus

Room specs - roughly 12' x 18' x 8'

I would really like to hear what people that own PT think of them after they have had them for a while. I also have available the JM Lab Cobalts, but think they are potentially a little to forward/bright for me.

Also trying to decide between the Denon 3806 and the Pioneer Elite VSX74 - I welcome your opinions - thanks in advance

Barry

I'm a big fan of the PC series. I spent some quality time with them, but unfortunately I couldn't afford them. You might want to look at using 3 PC 3.1 IIs across the front. You can rotate the mid/tweet module so it works both ways. Anyway, here's what I think of the PC 9.1 speakers. It speaks for itself...

Your sub would be a solid choice as well. I'm really not sure about the receivers though...

first off, welcome to the forum.

I can't speak apon the quality, as I have never heard the speakers, but I have a recommendation. Use the 3.1's for the LCR positions, if its affordable. This way all the front channels will be perfectly matched, plus they would seem to convey a larger sound.

Hope that helps,
sheep

EDIT: jaxvon you beat me to it :)

I certainly considered using the 3.1's all across the front, but my built in cabinet really doesnt accomadate that speaker. Its kinda interesting, i thought that Phase Technology was a fairly large company but you dont hear too much about them from owners. Is it just me?

I don't think it's just you. I don't hear much about Phase Tech. Heck, I didn't even know they existed till I wandered into a local stereo shop (interestingly called "The Stereo Shoppe"). They've been around almost as long as Klipsch. I don't know why they're not as popular, as they sound GREAT. But whatever, it keeps the price down!

Phase Techs are awesome. I have lots of them in my house. wonderful speakers. you will not be let down.

Phase Tech is solid speakers. Phase does not spend a ton of money in advertising, or flashy stuff. They just make a solid speaker. As far as people talking about them....who knows. Maybe they are so satisfied that they just avoid the Loud Speaker section of forums.

Do you have a Phase Tech dealer near you? Have you got to listen to those bad boys?

Edit: One of the reasons is Price. Got to keep the price down. Why spend a bunch of money on pictures and so forth. You are going to be VERY hard pressed to compair $$ for $$ Phase with ANY ONE and have Phase Loose. Not Def Tech, Energy, B&W.

I use PC 9.1's as my main fronts and a PC 3.1 II for the center. At 40 lbs it's not a light center channel speaker! I had used Paradigms for years until I got these from my dealer last year. I had known about the Phase Tech brand but had not really given them a listen. I was fortunate to get a pair of dealer rep 9.1 demos that had some VERY minor scratches in cherry for $500! Plus I got the 3.1 II for $200 also part of the dealer rep demos. I have nothing but great things to say about Paradigm speakers as I still have the Atoms and a PDR 12 and PDR 8 subwoofer in different rooms. That said the Phase Technology PC 9.1's are an awesome value and the sound is open clear and full. When just listening to music I usualy have the subwoofer off because you don't need it and the bass is a lot tighter. The subwoofer PDR 12 is fine for DVD's and the like. I suppose it depends on what kind of music you want to listen to. Anyone interested in this speaker company should go to their website and watch the video of how they make their speakers. Dealers for them are hard to find but they do exist in every state although you may have to drive a way to reach them. It just depends on if you live in a city or small town like I do. My dealer is 30 miles from me. No big deal. Hope this helps. The PC 9.1's list for $1000 a pair. You can check out the price for Phase Tech's at www.onecall.com.

Ditto the positive opinions expressed in this thread! I am one of those overly analytical guys that spends way too much time researching and demo'ing potential purchases (esp big ticket items) and after listening to many different speakers (in my budget) and reading all the reviews, I gladfully settled on the 9.1's with the 3.1 II center and 2 pair of CI-6.1 in-ceiling surrounds. Phase Tech is the innovator, not the follower, in speaker technology and several other companies have utilized their design in their products. While they aren't a mass marketed outfit, they deliver where it counts....in the sound (for both HT and music)! If you haven't read jaxvon's review, I suggest you check it out as he does a good job running the PC's through the paces.

As for receiver, you may want to wait on the Yammie 2600 due to its "bang for the buck". I have listened to the Phase Techs with the 4600 and they sound great. But, as others have warned, the 9.1's may need an external amp to realize there full potential.

Also, in regards to price, if you don't mind negotiating, you can probably get up to 25% off list for the PC's if you try.
