The signal reduces by as much as -3 or -6db I’m not really into doing any testing right now but if you buy yourself a sound pressure level metre you can conduct the test yourself!
Also can you divide the centre phantom signal which is presented on left and right often some film mixes send a dialogue a sound effect passage to the left and right. Can you press a button on your AVR or AVP and divert that signal to say the centre channel.
Often the end credits with music will either be sent along with the centralized vocals to left and right but at the push of button I can do something different which 9/10 most can’t or are afraid to even give it try.
It’s really easy when you know how which adds a little more fun to the home cinema.
Films that use this type of effect off the top of my head I can think of
Alien original first edition Dolby DVD
Die Hard with a Vengeance dts laserdisc
Goldeneye dts laserdisc
Apollo 13 dts laserdisc
Star Wars episode III Revenge of the Sith Dolby DVD
Poseidon Dolby DVD
Moonraker Dolby DVD
And whole lot more.
