perhaps odd comparison

Folks:

If I were going to drop 2.5 or 3k on a good car system, or the same amount on a 2.1 system (loudspeakers like a pair of jbl 880's, or paradigm studio 20's, matched with a decent sub), which would sound better?

I like music a lot of a variety of types, and I've done the first (car), and am curious what I'd think of the latter. Maybe it's a bad comparison, but going to audition speakers is a chore, the rooms are always different, etc. But I'd like to hear opinions.

The home system would sound better*, but good luck fitting it in a car.

* Unless you like thumping bass in a vary small enclosed space and pissing off those around you.

sorry, not talking about trying to fit real speakers into a car.

Just asking which would be a higher quality system (good auto components vs. the same dollar amount of 2.1 home components).

I don't have a whole lot of experience with car systems, but I feel like there's a limit as to how much you can do in a car. There are so many variables, some of which can not be overcome easily, if at all. I think the money spent would be more worthwhile in a home system.

You're new here, aren't you?

I was being a wee bit sarcastic, but I do believe I did offer my opinion. That "very small enclosed space" bit should have been a tip off.

Installation is all the difference

I agree that you get more "bang for your buck" with equipment for the home over against stuff in the car.

However, concerning car audio: make sure you find a reputable installer when you do decide to upgrade your automobile audio. I am very pleased with the quality of installation for my car audio upgrade. When I crank up the sub for tracks like AC/DC "You Shook Me All Night Long" there is absolutely NO rattle - a sign of a quality installation.
