PCM/Bitstream question

Say you have a standalone blu ray player, and are using a HDMI connection and have your audio output set to bitstream, and you have a blu ray disc who's only lossless audio track is a PCM track. Will your player automatically playback the PCM track if you select that, or will you have to change your setting to PCM for that viewing session, or just deal with standard lossy dolby digital or dts as the case may be?

It will be sent as PCM, no problem.

FWIW, the only BDP I've ever had can only bitstream. No fiddling required. ;)

Thanks, I was just curious about this as some discs have both a PCM and a TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio track, and some have PCM only. I don't own a standalone player, but will have my HTPC's setup in the future to bitstream the HD audio.

Just look at the receiver display.

If it is bitstreaming DD/DTS, it will be reading "DD/DTS" on your receiver's LCD.

If it reads "Multi-Channel PCM" (or similar), then you know it is bitstreaming PCM.
