Hello all.
I'd like to upgrade my pc speakers, to something better than my Logitech Z-540's

What are you doing for pc speakers?
I have a pretty good sound card, Creative Elite Pro, has an external console with Toslink output.

Is anyone using small bookshelves, hooked to a receiver?

Thanks
Rick

Small bookshelves hooked to an old stereo receiver have been my PC audio MO for a long time now, it lets me put some of the crap I've accumulated to use. :D

Home PC's: Energy Point 1e bookshelves, 1976 Sansui 6060 receiver. (speaks $9.99/ea at Goodwill, receiver $4 at St. Vinnie's, just needed a fuse.) XP PC goes to AUX, the Vista box to Tape 1. Vista PC also feeds main hi-fi in adjacent living room with WMA Lossless files.

Office PC: AR M.5 bookshelves, Onkyo TX-3000 receiver (speaks $9.99/ea and receiver $14.99 at Goodwill)

I like these setups better than regular computer speakers.

I have the Logitech Z-5500, which delivers 5.1 surround. Obviously, this is not the best thing out there, but in a small room, it sounds just fine, alot better then many of the other products out there in the PC market that are basically utter crap. The best solution is probably a receiver bookshelf combo, but this setup does a decent job for basic computer use, much better then some others i've heard in the same price range.

I have this too. If you ask me it's the best big name set you can get. At the time I didn't think of looking into something more.

FWIW, I prefer them vastly to the Klipsch Promedia I have as well.

Edit: Once I have my new computer, and HT setup I am going to try using my TV/HT speakers for my computer. Just need to figure out a way to have a keyboard and mouse comfortably on my lap on a couch... then I can park myself for a long time.

I'm using Klipsh Promedia GMX-A 2.1 for my PC, and using the Promedia 2.1 THX Certified system in my bedroom as speakers for the dvd player/tv and .mp3 player. Both sound fantastic, and have excellent bass, and they can also play quite loud for their size.
