Hi,

I want to be able to play my games consoles on my PC screen which has a resolution of 1680 x 1050. If I use a composite to vga adaptor, will it just come out at standard PAL resolution or will it be 1050?
If not, I have an AV reciever I use for my PC sound, if I input the games consoles video through the reciever will it switch the resolution?

It will remain whatever resolution your sourc is sending it in most cases. I don't have any issues passing DVI>HDMI>Receiver>HDMI>TV running games at 1920x1080. If you are playing PC games you need to remember to set the resolution in game as well as the resolution of the operating system.

Some (most?) screens only support a predefined set of screen resolutions. If the resolution is not supported you'll get a black screen and maybe a message saying "Resolution not supported".
What is your screen and game console?

I have a Philips 200WS8FS screen with DVI and VGA input. The consoles I intend to use on it are the N64, Gamecube and possibly the Wii. (As you can proberly tell I like Nintendo consoles!) I would either send the video through a composite to VGA or DVI adaptor. Or if it would work I could use a SCART to VGA adaptor as I will get a better picture. If I use the composite, should I send it through the reciever? Its a Sony STR-DE495.
