Yea, I love the thing, but wouldn't recommend it if you want to stay on budget :D

Exactly. Forced air cooling can work as well, but for the most part I'd advise on avoiding it.

Nope, fan noise hasn't been a problem. It's noticeable when on high, but doesn't seem so bad, at least to me. On medium or low it's barely noticeable in a silent room. Plus it's a big fan so low or medium will probably be all you need.
Thanks a lot Fuzz, I decided to order the combo from Amazon, gets me over $25 so I get free shipping. Many thanks for the link.
Jeff :)

Not a problem, hope you like them. :D

If you should ever feel like spending $40 more dollars then you could always add one of these in the future. Auto on/off with temperature monitoring. All you do is plug this into the AC adapter and the fan into this and hook up the thermal monitor. It would keep the fan off until the space heated up to a temperature that you set and then the fan would turn on, lower the temperature of the space (or receiver) and turn off when it dropped back down.

If you should ever be so inclined ;)

Thanks Fuzz, I would be so inclined, I could get all three of your reco's for $65 and free shipping, I think that is pretty good considering the monitor is $40 by itself. Thanks again, it's cheap insurance for an expensive component.

I was really lucky and was able to find a really great computer grade Middle Atlantic UQFP-4DRA fan panel for 170 bucks (750 retail  ). I wanted it in part because it is exposed in my rig and I wanted something that was quiet, durable, moved a lot of air, and looked good doing it:

While this is probably their most expensive unit, they also have less expensive panels that look more "technical" I guess you could say, for lack of a better term. I think my wife would call them "industrial" :( .

Anyway, there are a lot of different types of hobbyists looking for fan panels like us HT buffs, the DJ industry and music biz, and the commercial computer industry. The computer industry seems to be the most demanding and they also seem to sell off boatloads of equipment frequently and cheaply. I usually look there to identify what I want or need then look to source some good used equipment.

I think the knock on a lot of the other components you may find (not speaking to anything directly suggested in this thread) is that fans are noisy, break down quickly, or begin to squeal after a month of use.

Poke around EBay in the business and industrial area if the piece of equipment is going to be hidden especially ;) . This goes for power equipment as well. You can find some really great surge protectors with digital power on delays for your amp for 50 to 80 bucks. Try that when hunting strictly for AV equipment.
