I have a Yamaha RV-V430

http://www.yamaha.com/cgi-win/webcgi.exe/Features/?gAVR00010RX-V430

My christmas present plans to be an SVS PB10, however, I've been reading where the receiver needs bass management in order to use the PB10 due to its lack of crossover. My receiver does have a subwoofer pre-out, but I see no way to manage the bass through it, other than by setting the speakers to small. Soooo...

Will the Pb10 work well with my receiver?? Or will I be disappointed with the PB10 until I can upgrade my receiver??

Thanks!

...Why don't you just look? It will be a black RCA plug right below the Audio inputs.

Also, you recevier has fixed 90Hz Bass management. Maybe the PB-10 might not be the right subwoofer for you.

BTW, the RXV-530 has a preout, and My 440 has a preout, so I think you will have one.

Setting the speakers to Small is a part of bass management. It means that frequencies below the receiver's xover point will be sent to the sub instead of the speakers. The only negative of that recevier is a fixed xover point. 90 Hz may work well enough for you but a different receiver that allows you to set the xover to a value of your choosing (80 Hz is almost universally the right setting) would be more flexible and may provide slightly better integration between the sub and the other speakers.

The PB-10 will work fine with that receiver as long as you can set the speakers to Small, but a 90 Hz xover may not be ideal - still I think it's close enough that you should get the sub and entertain ideas of upgrading the receiver at a later time when funds permit.

I just looked at the PB10s response curve and it is fairly flat up to about 90 Hz then starts to roll off so there should be no real problem. Like MDS said, set your speakers to small and enjoy. You will also need to balance the sub's output with the speaker's, but we can help with that when the time comes. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Its not the response that I'm concerned about. It's the fact that 90Hz is localizable, and it's not 90Hz brick wall filter.

Thanks for the responses. I might not have to wait till christmas either as I have located a used pb10 that I'm contemplating buying. It is a year old. Any opinions on buying used?

As for the receiver, WAF is playing a huge factor in all this, so I'm trying to hold off on a new receiver until there are less expensive ones with 2 hdmi 1.3 hookups inputs available.

if you keep the pb10 close to the front speakers, you will be fine with ""localization""
