Passive Radiator Options for existing enclosure??

Interesting thread here. The vent is always the killer when you are looking at small vented enclosures. They almost always require huge venting (which takes up big space) removing the point of the small enclosure. :(

Passive radiator may be an option but good proper ones up the price and affect the enclosure dimensions significantly.

HOWEVER :D

The best compromise I can come up with here is the CSS SDX-10 in 2.0ft^3 with 2 of the CSS APR10 passive radiators with 160 grams of added mass each.

This yields an extremely flat response (+/- 1db from 29.4hz to 70.7hz [lower & upper -1db points]). It also has pretty good extension too with a -3db point of 27.5hz (at 106.9db with 300 watts rms) and a -6db point at 25.2hz. The upper -3db point is 81hz.

This assumes the high pass filter in the amplifier and a 4th order low pass at 80hz. There is a slight bump in xmax nearing 20hz that exceeds by about 2.5 mm or so but this should not be too much concern for the driver at hand and power should be backing off some at that point because of the infrasonic filter.

I don't think you could ask much more from such a small enclosure. Here is all you need for just $349.00

If this enclosure is still to large, you can drop to 1.5ft^3 and up the mass to 180 grams each. This option will raise the f3 to 30hz however so it hurts extension some.
Great info .

Based on this post..I think you can help me .

I made a 3 way system using a cabinet I made from scratch.

3 front drivers are sealed inside the enclosure.Then....at the bottom of these drivers...on another chamber there is hole I made to place my 12"woofer. But guest what? I missed calculate the subwoofer enclosure...so I am short. Meaning that I can not use my 12s drivers anymore.

I currently have 2.194 ft3 of space. 100% sure on that.

Because I already have one hole on each tower to place a 12" driver...I was wondering if can be possible to use your 12" driver configuration but with only one passive radiator .

I will have to make another 12" HOLE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE wall for each passive radiator So the drivers will be at the same level left and right.

Can this work? did you include driver displacement already in the enclosure calculations? or Do I need to subtract it?

Also.....by using just one passive radiator on each tower ...will this affect the lower freq you stated?

I would be so happy if I can get ultra flat at 30hz.

I will you a bash 500 watts.

Please help me out.

Is me again......I began checking those passive radiators..and to be honest they look very ugly. Could you recommend me another passive radiator and how much will be the mass to add?

thanks.

I would recommend that you start your own thread so as to get your specific questions answered. Provide all of your specific info, etc and you will likely get more attention from other members as well.

You right....To be honest.I was trying to make my own thread..But.....unfortunately...I don't have enough privileges to make one according to the website.

Just need recomendations on another 12" passive radiator to work with the 10" woofer you mentioning.

No offense...but I don't like the recommended 12" passive radiator look..

Each tower speaker will have one 10" driver working with a 12" passive radiator.

Can you or anyone make the suggestions on another 12" radiator and the added mass need it in a 2.194 ft3 or in a 62.12 liters?

Thanks in advance.

So to get this straight you need a 12" woofer and a 12" passive radiator for your enclosures?

OR

Do you need a 10" woofer and 12" passive radiator for your application?

If the first application, it is going to make it a bit difficult since a passive radiator application works best when the passive radiator has a fair bit higher Sd than the woofer.

In either case it is going to be difficult to meet objectives if you do not like the CSS since they are one of the best 12" passive radiators, if not one of the only decent ones out there (that I am aware of).

AE Speakers makes some excellent 15" & 18" passive radiators but they will not work in your application.
