For 2ch music and movies....

Should I go Parasound A23 - P3 separates
or
Creek 5350SE

Speakers for the system: still deciding....

Thank you.

Parasound sounds beautiful. Listened to 23...nice. Never heard the Creek unit/s but I would audition if possible. Heard Parasound are great to their customers which is important. Good luck.

Thank you mnnc!

ya, I loved the sound of the A23 and P3 :) Very smooth and almost tube like!

I cannot audition the Creek since it will be a special order though :(

Well, your choice of amps should depend on he speakers, impedance and sensitivity a whole lot. Perhaps when you settle on them, a better answer can be offered?

What are the specs on those two units?

....Thank you mtrycrafts...

problem is that I cannot decide on the speakers!

Since it will be 2ch only, with no sub, I'd like them to have a big soundtage and superb imaging.
I'm looking for speakers around $2500 more or less.
I have audiotioned the Thiels 1.6, B&W 704, Gallo Ref 3.1, Focals 908, Martin Logans.....
I liked the Thiels very much! But they require too much fiddling!
I liked the gallos too but I'm not sure if they would be perfoect for me room.

I can only place the speakers at about 8" from the front wall, and the right speakers has a side wall at about 2-3ft.
The left speakers does not have a side wall, since the living room opens to the dining/room kitchen...

I own the Thiels 1.6 and I must say they are absolutely wonderful sounding. However, if you use them without a sub you'd be missing the bottom octave because they are only 2-way speakers. I just ordered a subwoofer to compliment them and I believe that you would want one too in the long run (even for jazz they missed some important lower frequencies under 50Hz).

Axiom are big bang for buck. Read some reviews/check out website. Nice choices on your mind though I believe you could do better for the same or perhaps even less money. You can achieve as good and probably better sound with companies like Axiom, Rbh, Psb,...??? Something to think about.

As far as Parasounds specs are concerned...just visit site and click/review links. Worldwide praise.

I am running a set of Thiel CS 2.2's with the Parasound A21/P3 combination with a great deal of satisfaction.

Thanks mnnc...
I just read the blind test from craigsub on the Axiom and I'm glad I did. In the end, Since I am not an audiophile I think I will not be able to really listen through the music to the very slight cahnges in coloration or transparency, so for me a $3000 would be overkill....

So at this point how would the Parasound separates, and Axiom M80v2 be togehter?

Any other speakers in the same class as axiom m80 to check out?

:D

bshplt - If you're looking for big soundstage, imaging and bass, consider one of the Ohm Walsh series. They're easy to place and will work with either amplifier. Huge sweetspot, so no fiddling!

They're not the best looking speakers out there, that's for sure. :( Their website isn't too sexy either...but these speakers can (soundwise) be very impressive. They'll embarrass a lot of so-called "hi-end" speakers out there. I have the MicroWalsh Talls, so they are pretty small and don't look too bad - but to move some air you need the bigger guys. They are easy to place, and have a large sweetspot - their sound just energizes the room!

As we can see, these speakers have different requirements:D
I would suggest waiting to decide on the amps until you have a speaker selected for sure.

mtrycrafts: this is a previous post of mine :)
I'm thinking now of speakers such as the Axioms, Swans and the like. Spending $3000 on speakers and not having a WOW factor is a bit sad, so I'm thinking of spending half of that and enjoy the rest of the money! ;)
