Hey the post on your home page says 2005 but your post below states 2006. Which is it?

I just read the article in the WSJ and it's 2005. Excellent article in the journal for those of you with access to it.

I tweaked the home page post - sorry. As soon as I posted, I found info on other companies that jumped on board and realized that Toshiba had orchestrated a press release.

Paramount is 2006, some claim end of 2005... My bet is 2006 is earliest. :)

Should probably read "we believe HD-DVD is the best and cheapest way to wallpaper our offices in twenties..."

It's still too early to tell what this means for the "format war". These agreements are non-exclusive, so it's still possible for them to also adopt Blu-Ray in addition to HD-DVD until the "war" is won. Studios hate spending money, and they may be afraid of the higher start-up costs for Blu-Ray manufacturing. Although once the equipment is in place, the manufacturing cost per-disc is about the same as HD-DVD or standard DVD, and it'll be about the same price on retail shelves, too.

And don't out that while the "war" is going on in early '06, Sony will be quietly flooding the market with Blu-Ray players in the form of the Playstation 3. :)
