Parallelled amp outs?

Hi all
Ive been trying to find some information on getting two or more of the same/simlar amps and connecting the positive rails together and all the negative rails together. does this mean that if you have 2 amps with 100WRMS /ch cause a total of 200WRMS? also.. can you just connect the outputs or do you need to make a special circuit?
Thanks Guys

That would be called bridging and it only works for amps that are capable of doing so. Many 2/3/4 ch amps are able to do this internally, and there are monoblocks that allow you to connect 2 of them this way for more power.

mmm I thought bridging was when you had one amp with multiple channels and bridged those together if it allows it. im talking about two monoblock amps with 100W RMS for example. Can you bridge those or connect the +'s and the -'s which doent seem like bridging as they are diff amps.

yeap, it's still bridging.
just like j said, it depends on the particular amp model. best to just call the company who made it and ask them.

DO NOT hook both + and - of both amps together, as you will fry both of them. If you verify that they can be bridged, you would hook the + from one and the - from the other.

This will also require...

...a phase splitter up front, assuming you can find one, so one amp only amplifies the positive swing and the other, only the negative swing.

You really should check with the amp's manufacturer on this first. This generally requires a common power supply.

My Marantz monoblocks can be bridged this way (I think all of their monoblocks can be bridged like this), but not all can. You MUST check with the manufacturer before trying it.
