I will get to hear both of these but what do you guys think? They are both lightly used and can be had for the same price. Both are v4.
I have a sub but prefer listening 2 channel without it.
What differences can I expect?

I'd go Studio 60's in a heart beat. They are just better at everything. (except maybe bass extension...It's been a while.) Monitors are fine speakers but they are boxy sounding compared to the Studios.

I'm afraid the 60's will be thin on the low end. I really want my mains to be able to stand on there own.

The studios are the way to go IMO. The Monitors do sound a bit boomy for me and I would rather add a sub that have the tubbiness of the Monitor. The Studios are way tighter sounding to me....

I am (was) facing the same decision. Even though I haven't bought them yet, I have decided to go with the Studio 60s. I listened to both of them at a local dealer and as far as sound quality goes, it wasn't even a comparison. There was so much smooth detail coming from the 60s that I didn't even need to hear the Monitors. I listened to them anyway just to give them a fair shot but it only confirmed my impression of the 60s. I personally would have no problem listening to music on the 60s without a sub - unless it was very bass oriented music like rap, etc... I was actually looking at getting the Monitors with a sub or the Studios without a sub (for the time being) and I still have to go with the Studios. These were version 4s that I listened to as well. My vote is for the 60s all the way.

I haven't heard the studios but I did have a pair of v4 Atoms. They sound decent but not for the price. Weak midbass and a very resonant cabinet. I think you pay a premium for the name with the Monitor series. So I'd go for the Studios without a second thought.

Even the Studio 40's did a good job in my giant (8000 cubic ft) room and my loud listening habits. I listen to jazz a lot without the sub and they were nice and tight with a decent low end. I did blow out the woofers a few times but they were just too small for my room.

The 60's in a normal sized room would be quite impressive. Everything below the Studio series, from Paradigm, just didn't cut it for me. The Studios all sound good, the Sigs make me cry in a good way.

Studio 60's all the way. IMO, the Monitor line sounds muddy compared to the fuller/richer sounding Studio line.

Analogy: At the same price point, would you take a comparably equipped Lexus over a comparably equipped Toyota?
