Paradigm Studio 100 Vers 3 Review

Well my Studio 100's finally arrived with the CC570. I was immediately taken back by the sheer weight of the speaker. As I had heard before they were terribly packaged and the tweeter on one of the speakers was slightly indented. I contacted my supplier and he assured me that they would send my another tweeter (4 Screws) and I would be able to fix it myself. Eager to hear them I went a head and set them up with my Yammie 2400. It was immediately apparent that these speakers like power to run. I played a burned copy of a couple of songs (Outkast and Cameo and the speakers told me that my copies were not as good as I thought. I then played a store bought copy of Candy Dulfer - Saxuality - Lily was here, and heard super quality. I drove the speakers to -1.0 and the receiver shut down. I then connected my 2505 ATI Adcom Amp (a whole nother story) and proceeded to crank it up. The Sound is super with excellent quality. These speakers are exactly what I thought they would be. Giving excellent music. I would say that as far as using them for 5.1 surround they are certainly better than the bose but I think the real difference is in the music quality. Maybe my hearing is going but I am seeing peak lights flash and the speakers while having super sound quality do not seem that loud. I mean they crank but maybe because of the sound quality don't seem that loud.

Pro's :
Excellent Sound, magna shielded,

Cons: Poor Packing, Shipped with grills off, and only a top and botton styrofoam to hold the speaker. Expensive.

If you are looking for true sound quality, these are it. Not particuliarly strong on the Bass side but excellent highs and mid range. My next investment will be a sub. Going to wait a while, still catching up from buying the Amp, Speakers, wires, and Receiver.

Sorry to hear about the damage. You'd think with something that heavy & valuable they'd pack it it in a crate. I already know you got great speakers but I'm curious about the difference in sound between the Yammy & the Yammy + the amp. Could you live w/o it? Or does the amp breath a new life into them? I read your post & I'm thinking about doing the same thing but don't know if it would be worth it. Just wondering if you could elaborate on your experience thus far.

Paradigm Stuido 100 V3

DMoss,

Sorry to hear about the damage. My 100's arrived in perfect condition, the boxes looked in great shape - no damage whatsoever.

My speakers are substantially the same as yours - 100s, CC470 and ADP470s. I'm running mine with a B&K AVR-507, a HSU TN-1220 Sub w/matching 500 Watt HSU Amp. I'm only driving the 100s with 150 Watts, and my room is actually large than yours, about 3900 cft, with large openings to one side and the back which expands the volume significantly. From my limited experience, I perceive the Paradigms to produce extremely clean, musically accurate sound at all volume levels, including very loud. In fact, one of the stores where I had been listening to the speakers drove them to extremely high sound levels, and then really turned them up to the point where I thought they began to degrade, yet, they always sounded good when turned back down to more reasonable levels.

At any rate, I love my Paradigms, and hope you get your issues resolved soon.

Keep us advised

Sorry so long getting back but I have been sooo busy at work. In answer to your questions I think that you will need more power than my Yammy 2400 has to really be able to maximize on the sound quality of the Paradigms. They really do sound great, what is really neat about them is that they are so clean sounding that the only reason you know you are playing them loud is because you have to yell to talk. They really and trully are all I had expected. Again, I think their real strength is in the playing of music, not that the surround isn't great. I am healing from the $ 8000.00 I have spent in the last month and a half. As soon as I get caught back up I am going to get a new sub and the Paradigm ADP 470's then on to a better DVD player. Probably the Denon.

Dmoss-

You may need to adjust your settings if you don't think the Studio 100's put out enough bass. Mine thump ridiculously low and I don't even use my sub while listening to music...with a total of 6 woofers, who needs a sub? :D

Nice setup btw...I just picked up the 570 a couple of weeks ago and I'm extremely pleased with it. I'm looking to replace my old ADP's with the ADP-470's later this summer...so much equipment, so little money.

Enjoy!

magical paradaigm !!!

hello all,,

my main studio 80 (the old version ) are powered by krell (200wpc) and magnifisent a-11 of denon. in turms of music,it wont get so much better then this combination.the same speakers was conected before to ax-1 az1 of yamaha and its a huge diffrent now played by the analitic krell, best sound ever heard !!my whole system are paradaigm speakers(center,2 adp on side walls and 2 titan as rear speakers+sub ps 1000 ).
the only 2 speakers not paradaigm are the front efect (using only by yamaha) which is acoustic energy.
if you love movies but dont want to loose the pure enjoy of listening to music,i recomend you to let a real class A amlification to run your both main speaker to enjoy the music.
the fact that the paradaigm never sound loud even when you put the volume on very high,is their quality..one amazing thing about those speakers is that you always feel like you hear it all from the center speaker...
people never believe me when i tell them that they actually listen to only two speakers...also show how clean and ballance are those great speakers !

enjoy the music !!

looking to buy

I am trying to put together a setup for home theatre / music. Currently I am thinking of Studio 100's, CC470 (or should i go with the CC570, still debating) and ADP470's powered by a Rotel 1056 amp. Any suggestions on the configuration? Also anyone know anywhere that I can get a good deal on the whole setup? The current quote I have is about $2000 for the Studio 100's but I am trying to find em cheaper if possible.

Unfortunately I can't afford the sub now :( so that will have to wait...

Thanks!
