If there is someone that is very hard to please, that is my dad!!! Last week he decided to get rid of his old audio equipment and he asked me to look for a 2.1 channel system he could use. His demands were clear; he wanted something that's easy to install and easy to use, so I thought of a soundbar system. After a while I of going back and forth, I finally found a couple of systems that he really liked (both being from Paradigm. One of the is Paradigm's Soundtrack 2 System.

This nice system features a Movie Mode, which utilizes Dolby Digital as its standard audio format, and a Music Mode for a classic 2-channel experience. It also has Bluetooth capability and lets you stream content from a mobile phone/portable device and charge the device from another room while continuing playback and control from Soundtrack 2’s easy-to-use remote or the top panel controls.

The Soundtrack 2 System features two full-range driver complements physically separated into two channels. Two drivers and a passive radiator make up the right channel of the soundbar with the same complement on the left. According to the company, this separation ensures that sound from both channels travels widely and deeply throughout the room. With the dedicated Music and Movie Modes boasting Paradigm Virtual Surround you can switch back and forth to suit your listening experience to your liking.

By now, you might be asking about the speaker complement, right? Well, in charge of the bass/midrange, the Soundtrack 2 comes with 2 x 4" bass/midrange woofers (mineral-filled polypropylene). According to Paradigm, this material delivers a superb low-mass, high-stiffness ratio, offers excellent reproduction in the higher midrange, and improves transient response. The material is also an effective damper for distortion as the woofers move back and forth.

But that's not all! It also packs 2 x 4" passive radiators which are constructed of a mineral-filled polypropylene. The purpose of these dual radiators is to extend the speaker’s range in the lower bass frequencies. Last but not least, the Soundtrack features 2 x 1" high-frequency ferro-fluid cooled dome tweeters which are not ver common at this price range. Fluid cooling the voice coil improves power handling which, according to Paradigm, improves the accuracy, purity and range of the high-frequencies.

Lets talk about the compact, low-profile Sub with Dual Ports. It has 8-inch laminated polypropylene cone driver with a 1-1/2" high-temperature aluminum-wire voice coil. Dual ports help ensure even, articulate, well-timed bass performance while the oversized ports and driver are arranged in a perpendicular array to achieve the low-profile design. A wired option for subwoofer is also available and the cable is not included.

But, what about amplification?
An advanced Class-D Amplifier has been integrated into this design. Its Digital Signal Processing capability helps ensure clean, musical bass performance and supplies the power necessary for Paradigm Virtual Surround which is a surround sound algorithm developed by Paradigm’s engineers. This Class-D amplifier delivers 2 x 25 watts of RMS power and 2 x 50 watts peak power from the sound bar. The amplified sub delivers 100 watts of RMS power and 250 watts peak power. Not bad!
