Well I am getting soo close to actually finishing my HT room. Today I bought some Paradigm ADP-370's.. Here is my dilema..I have (4) Monitor 7 V.4's, a CC390 -center and the (2) ADP-370's.. I have been told that the 370's should be my surrounds and the Monitor 7's the front and rears, I was kinda thinking the Monitor 7's for fronts and surrounds and the 370's for the rears??? What do you guys think??

The ADP are dipole speakers (ADP= 'adaptive dipole'). Dipole speakers fire sound in two directions but each driver is 180 degrees out of phase with the other; ie when one moves in, the other moves out.

They should be positioned so that the null of the speaker is facing your ears and that means they are ideally positioned to your sides which is where your surround speakers should be. If you were to place them behind you, the null of the speaker would be pointing at the back of your head and the speaker would be firing sound left and right rather than forward and back.

It may sound fine and you can always experiment to see if you like it but it isn't the way they are designed to be used.

Sounds like they should be my surrounds..but are the Monitor 7 V.4's overkill for rears??? I bought 4 for a grand (new in boxes) or I would have only bought 2. Any other suggestions??

Probably overkill as there won't be a whole lot of sound sent to the rears for most movies but then again probably nice for modes like All Channel Stereo or multi-channel music.

Yes, they are overkill for surrounds unless you will be doing a lot of multichannel music (DVD-A/SACD). To be honest, even the ADPs are overkill...5s or Minis would do just fine for surrounds. In fact, I used my 5s as surrounds while I was waiting for my current ones and they worked very well in surround duty.
