Hey all I can get the Panny for 399.99 on J&R or the
Harmon Kardon AVR 340 $443.52 through employee purchase

I'm planning on using the DefTech ProCinema 800 series (which I haven't purchased yet)

These receivers fall within my price range because I just want an entry level audio receiver for now. I wont need video pass through for now because I will be passing video from ps3 and HD sat box straight to tv.

I'm a newb audiophile my use is 90% movies 10%music and its important to me that the surround sound effect is crisp and my rears work like true surround.

Which one would you Pick?

The panny model your describing I think is a Pioneer vsx1016 and I would go with that, but if it is a panny avr I might settle for the the hk340?
The hk units are not the most reliable receivers out there!!

I love the HK sound. I demo the pioneer 1014 before buying my HK avr-635 and the Sound Quality I like much better in my HK. I think you can get the 435 close to your price range and that will give you the ezset/eq that does an awesome job "taming" your room and making a better blended system.
