Well after all the info that ive gotten from all you guys here in the forums i have decided to go with a Panasonic 54" V10. At a local shop by my place found that they have 2 in stock. The are selling them for $2299.00. So i put down 10% and they are holding one for me. I can get my money back anytime in the next 30 days without any penalties if i want.

In the mean time i thought that i would post this to ask if this seems like a fair price?...

I am moving into a new house this saturday and will not be ready to pick it up until next week. I am really excited about it but dont want to rush into a purchase like this without double checking with you guys.

Thanks again!!

I checked out my local BB last night looking to compare the S,G & V from panasonic. There where 2 rows of displays to view from where I was standing? The S1 was directly in front of me and below it was the G10. The V10 along with a Sony were to the left and a Samsung B550 plasma and lcd to the right. The source was HD and all the displays showed the exact same channel. I couldn't spend a lot of time because I had my kids with me but with HD material there was very little to discern between the 3 pannys. The most notable thing to me was that the flesh tones look real and greens looked the deepest on the pannys. Unfortunately they didn't have any BR sources hooked up and my patients was running out with my kids..... If I was to buy my display last night I could've easily chosen the G10 or S1 based on what I saw.

FWIW....I'll be buying my display very soon(within the next week or two) and I'm only concerned about getting the best deal possible or value.

If you dont mind...post what you think of yours when you get a bit settled into it & ill be doing the same. Not sure exactly which day ill be picking it up but within 2 weeks im sure. Im over here in L.A county california & unless i find the v10 cheaper somewhere else then...

Let me ask you, did you get an extended warranty besides the manufacturers 1year?
Could anyone let me know if $399 for 5 years is something that is highly recommended or is it just a matter of personal prefference?

Well, I have always had good luck with extended warranties for my big screen TV's in the past. More often than not in my experience they have paid off for me.
$399 for 5 years is a good price if that covers everything!

Well, a pro calibrated 58" S1 would look better than a V10 without pro cal. Both of them with pro cal would look about identical, or so it said. The combined cost of the S1 + Pro Calibration would actually be less money than the 54" V10 uncalibrated.

Have your cake and eat it: Pay less, get a bigger TV, have superior PQ.

I posted some tidbits on the S1 here:
http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showpost.php?p=634626&postcount=9

My friend just got an S1, and I sent him that same 7 page PDF on SM offset tweakings. Depending on unit to unit variation, and default setting variation, maybe you can get half way to a pro cal without paying a dime. YMMV.

After pro cal, the only thing the V10 would have over the s1 is that 3:2 is not applied to film. Are you going to even notice? I don't know. Perhaps dependent on the viewing angle. Accurate colors on the other hand should be easily discernible and a pro cal will get you that.

Today is saturday the 21st. My wife & i picked up the new 54" v10. All i have to say is wow!! Right out of the box i went through the picture settings & the THX mode really looks great. I will however give it a good 200 hrs or so b4 i get it calibrated but i think it looks incredible even now. I had sonme friends over while i set it up so i havent been able to really dive into it yet.

When i went down to the shop to get it i set down with the salesman & we worked out what i feel is a reasonable deal. I paid $2185.00 for the V10, paid $199.00 for the scissor-arm wall mount (norm $449) & got a free Panasonic blu-ray player.

Just wanted to let you guys know what i ended up going with. All credit is to you guys for the great tips & honest advice. After reading reviews & talking with you i know i made the right choice for my situation & room characteristics. We are getting settled into the new house well & the tv really is the icing on the cake for me!!!

Gotta go.... :)

Will post pics later when i get finished setting up.
