After reading the reviews and saving I finally got the Panny TV recently reviewed here on Audioholics. I also got the HDMI board and installed it, mounted the TV in the HT room and got ready to power it on. I plugged my DVD player temporarly to confirm that all was good with the TV. And guess what, PQ WAS STUNNING, meeting all claims made in the review. I was happy with my purchase, until I tried to set up the rest of the sources and receiver etc. The root of the issue, I decided to go for the 1 cable solution using the HDMI input on the TV. And this is were things got sour.

I have connected the DVD player to the receiver via HDMI input, STB and Xbox to the receiver via component and up-converted the analog signal to HDMI. One HDMI cable goes from the Receiver's HDMI out to the TV's HDMI in. The DVD player and STB work great, but I get no video for Xbox. I can hear Xbox audio over the speakers. Initially I thought my Xbox video cable is fried, so I took everything apart and switched the Xbox to a different TV, and using the same video cable it works just fine there.

The manual has some kind of chart to show input resolutions supported, but it does not say on which kind of input. Also since HDMI is not standard on the TV, there is only passing reference to it in the manual. The HDMI board's manual only tells how to install it, no info on what signal it supports :( After eliminating all possibilities, it would seem the TV cannot handle 480i over HDMI input. But if SD cannels from the STB are displayed, why not the Xbox? Unfortunately, the TV does not display input resolution so I cannot confirm that SD channles on STB are 480i or 480p.

Can someone confirm or deny if this is indeed the case. I will be calling Panny tech support tomorrow since they are closed today. any feedback in the mean time will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Make sure the video connection you used for the xbox is assigned to the proper input. Some/most receivers let you reconfigure which input the component inputs are used for.

Yup. That was the first thing I tried. But no joy...

Spoke with Visual Apex tech support, the TV does not support 480i over the HDMI input. Well, sounds like its time to upgrade to Xbox360... or maybe I'll wait for the PS3.

Anyone know what the resolution is on the 360 for the console screens?

I apologize for the novice question, but if the single HDMI hookup doens't show 480i, then will standard cable work if it isn't upconverted?

I may be misinterpreting your question, but the 360 is compatible with 480i, 720p, and 1080i. You can change the resolution in the options screen of the Xbox dashboard. Very many of the games are stunning in 1080i, especially as developers are getting into their 2nd generation of games on the system recently and in upcoming months. :)
