As long as you write down the original parameters before you change anything, I don't see how you could mess anything up. It's not like you're changing any voltage settings within the display where there's a possibility of burning it up. It's mostly color and black level parameters.
This would give your calibration software a whole new dimension.
Another aspect of the SM I like is being able to change V and H settings. On my particular set the "HD size 1" is just a tad inset(by just 1 white line on each side) on the horizontal so I use "HD size 2" which blows the picture up a little too much for me.
It also show exact hours on the display so if you're doing the "break-in" procedure, you know how many hours are on the set instead of just guessing or logging run times.
