Panny DLP - Need Help w/Issues

Just purchased a Panasonic PT-56DLX75 DLP TV. I also have a progressive scan Toshiba SD-K741SU DVD player connected to the TV via component cables.

Picture looks great, yet I'm seeing a few issues (nothing critical):

1. Playing the Star Wars Episode III and The Incredibles DVD, I'm still seeing the letterbox format. I configured my DVD player to set the display as "16:9 Widescreen", yet I'm still seeing the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen.

2. ESPNews. The ticker seems to cut off on the left and right edges of the screen. Is this normal for this channel?

Any help would be great!

1. Your TV is 1.78:1 ratio, many widescreen DVDs are 2.35:1. To view them in their theatrical aspect ratio there will be black bars above and below. This is normal and is correct. Same is true on all 16:9 displays.

2. Not sure - it doesn't sound correct. You likely have zoom on or one of the 'stadium' type zoom modes. If it is from your cable box, then perhaps the cable box is 'zoomed' when it should not be. Make sure EVERYTHING is the same, not just the TV.

To confirm the movies aspect ratio, you can do a rough measurement of the picture: width divided by the height of the displayed picture. In that Star Wars, it should be close to 2.35:p
