Panel Mounting Quad Head Units.

Seriously, I have no life.
I'm often asked how you mount the Quad radio and preamp units form the Peter Walker era at Quad.

It is actually simple due to Peter's elegant and simple deign, which was his hallmark. He devised this system 70 odd years ago and all his radio and preamp units mount this way. In these days of WAF, his system should be replicated by a raft of manufacturers. His system adds nothing to the cost, in fact the reverse as it is so simple. All the cases are held on with just two bolts!

If you look at these Quad units you would not at first glance think they were panel mountable.

Also note on this 33 from the late sixties the printed circuit boards in the slots. The dis board can be mounted with any of the four sides extruding. Depending on the insertion you can more optimally load a range of cartridges. The tape board, has four screws in the board. If you move the two for the record output, you can select three different voltages of record output. Similarly moving the input screws you can select three different line level voltage inputs. Just brilliant and very useful.

A typical Quad unit with the two rear case screws removed and the cover slid completely off the chassis.

The case is then inserted and the two rear screws reinserted and tightened firmly. The unit is then firmly mounted to the panel. It is simple and ingenious.

So you can easily do this: -
