I think this was hinted at in a previous thread, but here is confirmation:

Of note, they say they will release DVD burners that are capable of storing HD content:

Osaka-based Matsushita, the world's largest consumer electronics maker, also said it plans to offer the world's first DVD recorders that can store full high-definition programs on conventional DVD discs next month.

"CHIBA, Japan (Reuters) - Panasonic maker Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd (6752.T) said it would launch new Blu-ray optical disc recorders in November that allow more hours of full high-definition recording on a single disc than any others available."

So how long until Microsoft and/or Toshiba launch their own version of an HD burner for HD DVD??

Or same goes for LG or Samsung to make a dual format burner, as opposed to a dual format player...*cues theme to Jaws*

I think there was something about HD-DVD burners previously - $2000 for the first model, available only in Japan.

My only worry is that a lot of the neat gear produced for the Japanese market doesn't make it here, in this case that would be a shame.
