I have a 58PZ850U and I have had trouble with red Dots on the screen. I have tryed four or five different HDMI cables. I have been using the monoprice HDMI cable tryed 2 different monoprice cables. also radio shack HDMI and a now 2 different Blue jeans HDMI cable and the Blue Jeans and the radio shack cable made it even worse. see pictures below

so today I tryed componet and there were no red spots. also I had been using HDMI 1 slot on the TV and to day I tryed HDMI 3 slot on the TV and it all looked good no red spots. this was with the monoprice HDMI cable then I switched it back to HDMI slot 1 and the red spots were there. now when I put the Blue jeans HDMI cable in HDMI slot 3 on the TV I get all kinds of red lines blue lines and blue dots. I switch back to the monoprice cable and it fine in HDMI slot 3 on the TV. So Is my TV HDMI Bad Im running direct from Direct TV DVR to my TV. should I have someone come out and look at my Tv ??

Alos I did try a nother Tv but Im not sure if its 1080 its A 22in viewsonic and I tryed all 5 HDMI cables on it and did not see any red dote or red lines with any of the cables

Thanks Tim

If you have a br player, you can hook that up to the various HDMI inputs and see if you get the same problem. It could be your Direct TV receiver that is bad.

Those Direct TV have very touchy HDCP code repeater architecture. It should detect that your TV is and end device, and not need repeated handshakes, however, it seems your TV and that box don't communicate well. I would run it though your DENON. That is apparently giving the correct repeated handshakes it desires.

HDMI is basically a pox on humanity, and you get these unexplained incompatibilities cropping up. HDMI is a continuous two way communication.

But why would it work on one HDMI slot on the TV and not the other. also does Direct TV have a new box out or is it still the HR20 -21

Thanks Tim

Those boxes are very touchy. I have two of their HD DVRs. The ones you sight are the current models. There is obviously something it does not like about that one port on you TV. I would connect it through your receiver, that is the best way to go, then it will get repeated handshakes, it won't get from the TV, likely. That will keep it happy.

One other thing, one power glitch, especially voltage sags, are inclined to take them down. I have both mine on UPS systems now. In my view, the build quality on that stuff is poor.
