Panasonic SA-XR55K receiver problem

I've had the Panasonic SA-XR55K receiver for a while and have this question. How do I switch from TV audio to the optical from my mac computer? I have the TV hooked up by component, and the computer hooked up by a very long optical cable to "optical 1". The only way I can get TV audio to the speakers is by popping out the optical cable. If the optical cable is plugged in I can't get audio from the TV. There must be a way to switch between the two but I can't figure it out. I tried getting an optical splitter and having optical from both the TV and the computer but that didn't work. I guess optical splitters don't work the way I thought. Any ideas? Thanks

I am planning on buying this same receiver.

How good is it?? what is the sound like when listening to music??

Is it worth it?? does it say how many watts per ch into 8 ohms??

Try assigning the optical to another input - CD, DVD, MD, etc...
