Well I mounted my Pany last night and ran my first movie thru it. and I have to say, I like what I saw just using the factory presets. I loaded in "The Golden Compass" in blue ray and set it at 1080P 24fps the audio kicked on full DTS Master Audio 7.1 <---:eek: The Image and sound took my breath away!!! my wife walked in right when I turned the lights off and she said Ohhhhhhh Myyyyyyyy Goshhhhhhhh. Here is a screen shot from the movie Spiderwick on blueray using the factory Cinema mode 1.

I have had my 2000 for 2 weeks now. I also use the cinema 1 setting on mine. I did a little bit of fine tuning to suit my tastes, but out of the box it is very impressive. One suggestion I have would be to try using it in eco-mode. You have a high gain screen (1.8) and I am using it on my 1.0 gain screen and think it is awesome (very little difference). Using the eco-mode will extend your lamp life quite a bit. I am already at 83 hrs! Give it a try and see if it works for you. I did my homework before choosing the panny, and I am very glad I did. This PJ rocks! I watched my first non-bluray/hddvd last night(Shrek on DVD) and the pj did a great job in conjunction with my panny bd30 upconverting the 480p to 1080p. I couldn't believe it was actually a dvd! Congrats and enjoy!

Thanks,

I totally forgot to update the screen but I ended up using a 135" screen with a 1.3 Gain. I'll try Eco mode tonight. Question, I noticed the that picture is not totally square. I tried the Keystone adjustment, but looks like the top right corner of the picture is tilted in a bit.

Hey you proud owners... if you like what you see so far, I think happier surprises could be on the way.

I don't own that movie, because its been well documented how there is excessive DNR. Just wait till you watch a better transfer David. Pan's Labyrinth looks like your screen shots as well: pasty faces. There is MUCH better out there, just you see.

Jim, I also have that BD player, and it works smooth as butter. But, the DVD playback is pretty poor, and that has also been well documented. Ive put the same disc into both the BD-30, as well as my HD-DVD player, and its orders of magnitude in PQ difference, IMO. However, I watch .0001% standard def, so I don't really care.... BUT IF I DID, I would try to get a better SD-DVD player... fwiw... perhaps a used Oppo in the future?

PQ thread

you are "golden" from about .... uh... gold on up. :p

I use the above a lot in helping me decide purchases. Its bookmarked. Yea, sure, sometimes I am a little confused by the nit-picking abilities of some videophiles, but I guess since it DOES have to be ordered...

Thanks for the tip. I haven't watched too many standard def movies either, so far just the one(Shrek). I thought it looked great as far as PQ. Maybe because it is an animated movie? I have a large collection of DVD's though and will probably watch quite a few of them. Do you think my Toshiba HD-A3 will do a better job of up-conversion than the panny bd-30? I believe the Toshiba is only 1080i.

David, Spiderman 3 looks pretty sweet in blu-ray at 1080/24p and sounds good too with Dolby TrueHD!

I would presume so Jim. The Panny is about as bad as they come in this regard. My HD player is HD-A35. Between the two, its not even close. Yeah, and animations just look better. If you look at the PQ thread I attached, almost half of the best are animation...

I found that when the picture is not square the projector is not completely perpendicular to the screen. Measure from each corner of the projector to the screen and you'll probably find the measurements are off a little.

Enjoy your Panasonic - I sure have enjoyed mine.

David, I now realize that the two movies you listed are actually in the Gold tier. So it seems I'm giving you very contrary remarks, so I searched to see why I thought what I did... hmmm....

The Golden Compass *PIX* + Reviews

And a poster I trust a bit more than others said likewise... Im confused how it made Gold tier...

just wanted to clarify why I said what I did. I'll have to dig deeper later...
