Panasonic Plasma Help

I have a Panasonic TH-50PX80U 720p tv that I bought in 2008. The tv has had some issues lately with it wanting to turn on. The red light on the front blinks like it is in standby mode and I have to turn off all the other components and unplug the tv from the outlet and then re-plug it back in and turn everything back on to get it to work. This procedure has solved this problem until today.

I can push the power button on the tv and it will click, but then it goes back to the blinking red light. The problem is sporadic and didn't start until I replaced my receiver with an Onkyo TX-NR809 with HDMI switching (I'm not implying that the receiver is necessarily the problem).

I've been a lurker on the this forum for awhile and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bypass the receiver and connect it to the sources separately. If it works, you need to go through the Onkyo's menu and set it up. It could be in the HDMI section, having to do with automatic switching. HDMI is a PITA.

Same thing

Are you using a very long or cheap HDMI cable though? I've had two of the cheaper (cheap internet cables, learned a lesson and only using decent components now) HDMI cables I bought crap out on signal.

I have to do the same thing on one of my set ups... Both Panasonic TVs and Denon receivers, but for some reason one of them has intermittent cut-outs in the feed with my Comcast cable box. Works flawlessly with the Blue ray player. Comcast tech people are clueless and no idea why this happens.

I don't know what I'd change in the Onkyo's hdmi setup as I have the hdmi on the direct setting with no alterations being made. I also only have a 6ft hdmi cable and it intermittently cutting out is not what is happening.

Upon further reading I've figured out that the blinking red light is a code specific to the year my tv was manufactured. It is blinking 10 times which translates into: 10 blinks Sub 5v SOS / Main 3.3v SOS A-Board
DTV 9v SOS / Tuner Power SOS

Most threads I can find relating to this issue are people who used video cards from their pc's. Evidently the hdmi ports 1 and 2 on the back have a filter and need a certain voltage from the source as they were not designed to be used for gaming/computer. Unplugging the tv to reset it and turning it on first generally solved the problem which is what I was doing to fix mine. I'm not sure how this exactly relates to the problem I'm having unless the Onkyo isn't providing enough voltage through the hdmi port.

I have moved the tv to my bedroom with just a cable box and so far there are no problems. Thanks for helping me with my problem. I've spent countless hours reading posts from this forum and reading the articles audioholics publishes. There is an immense amount of knowledge and know-how contained in both and I feel grateful that these resources are available.

I bet you are correct about the Onkyo. Onkyo are having a lot of issues with their HDMI boards.
