Panasonic DVD-S97S +R format?

Does anyone know if the Panasonic DVD-S97S player handles +R DVD formats? I see on their website that it says it handles DVD: DVD-Audio, DVD-Video, DVD-RAM (including MPEG4 files), DVD-R, but no mention of +R or +RW.... maybe they don't.

Can someone please confirm that it can read +R DVD discs or not before I plunk some money down to buy this? I appreciate it...

Thx!

The following is a quote from the bottom of page 5 in THE MANUAL:

Discs that cannot be played:
DVD-ROM, CD-ROM, CDV, CD-G, DVD+R, +RW, DVD-RW, SACD, Divx
Video Discs and Photo CD, DVD-RAM that cannot be removed from their
cartridge, 2.6-GB and 5.2-GB DVD-RAM, PAL discs§ and “Chaoji VCD”
available on the market including CVD, DVCD and SVCD that do not
conform to IEC62107.
It looks like you're out of luck. Panasonic is in the DVD-R camp so that is probably why.

Personally I believe these two formats are superfluous. Since DVD+R is more compatible with just about everything, it should be the one and only format. The same thing is going to happen with Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD. Enough already!

Oh.... crap! There goes my luck. :( I thought I heard it before that they are on the -R camp. They should just stick to one... or play every format you throw at it like the Denons. Its painful when they sell these things in bits and pieces. I think the Blu-Ray and HD-DVD will fight it for long... as long as they get support from big players for both formats. It will be interesting to watch.

Thanks for checking this for me! ;)
