I have cross-posted the following since I am not as yet sure whether this is simply a connection problem, or a hardware issue

In the belief that the days of VHS were finally nearing an end, I bought the above. It has proven to be a very annoying purchase, so much so, that I had to temporarily remove it from my set up on the instructions of my wife. My problems are listed below, and no doubt have much to do with my set up of the unit, the confusing instruction booklet, and my basic stupidity

The unit was connected to the following

Grundig Sky Digibox( with two scarts)
Pioneer Media Reciever PDPR03E
Denon AVR 3805

The annoying elements were as follows:

1) The unit had to be turned off in order to recieve a signal from the ski digi box. I know this has to be a set up issue since it basically precluded us from recording onto the hard drive or DVD, since we couldd't see the satelite picture.
2) When turned on the unit did a self check that took about a minute, and similar on shut down, leaving us with a blank screen

All in all I am sure that the way i have connected everything( scart) is the basic problem, and I would appreciate some advice.
