Obvously you need an external tuner with that model as it contains no internal tuners at all. It does have speakers which I don't see as often on plasmas without tuners, so that's a plus if you intend to use them.

More and more plasmas are starting to look phenomenal, and Panasonic is right near the top of the list for providing some of the best products out there. So, if you have the cash, intend to hook it up to an external HD cable/sat box (don't forget DVR!) and a decent DVD player, then you should expect to be pretty happy with that model.

If you want CableCard, built in OTA capabilities you would have to try their 50PX model. Check the Panasonic website for a good listing of their plasmas and the specs of each one.

I have the Panasonic TH-50PX50U and it has a fantastic picture with DVDs and HD. But as with almost any HD TV or Projector the SD picture looks worse on the plasma then it does on a SD set. But that's the nature of the technology.

Someday everything will be in HD and it won't be an issue. I'm happy with my Plasma.

So if I purchase (rent) the digital cable box from Comcast, I will be able to receive HD as well as regular local channels?? I heard something about having to go thru the vcr to get regular channels?

No, that is a problem with satellite, not cable.

If you get Comcast, every TV in your home with a cable outlet will be able to receiver standard programming (no extra cost) your plasma will need not just a DIGITAL cable box, but the cable box must be the HDTV digital cable box.

There are two (actually dozens) different models of digital cable boxes. The normal type just receives the non-HDTV digital channels (about 400) and the HD digital cable box also receives the HD channels along with the digital channels. Both boxes also get the analog channels.

So, yes, with a HD digital cable box from Comcast you will get your locals, HD channels, and digital channels with nothing else necessary. Check your local Comcast website to find out your exact channel lineup.
